High voltage safety for electrical workers

Participants will learn how to safety  work on or near electrical lines and equipment.  This high voltage safety program was specifically designed for electricians or other persons that work on electrical switchgear, equipment or power lines. You will learn about live line tools, the effects of electricity on people and equipment and how to respond to an unwanted release of electrical energy in the work place.

We are now offering the Qualified Electrical Worker program as outlined in the competency profiles produced by the Province of Saskatchewan

Training may include:

  • A review of electricity and electromagnetic forces
  • Electrical jargon and definitions
  • Effects of electricity on people and equipment
  • Responding to  electrical emergencies
  • S.T.E.P., Touch and Mesh potentials
  • Grounding electrical lines and equipment
  • Selection, inspection and use of live line tools including gloves and sticks
  • Limits of approach to overhead electrical lines and equipment
  • Establishing shock protection boundaries using CEA/ NFPA 70e definitions
  • Setting up safety zones for cranes and other aerial devices.
  • Avoiding the second point of contact
  • Avoiding differences in potential
  • Defining Arc Flash and Arc Blast and determining the appropriate controls/ limits
  • Grounding techniques including inspection and installation of grounds for tripping, personal protection and bonding
  • Effectiveness and limitations of PPE while working around high voltage
  • Selecting, testing, inspecting, using and maintaining insulated rubber gloves
  • Selecting, testing, inspecting, using and maintaining fiberglass hot sticks
  • Selecting, testing, inspecting, using and maintaining insulated rubber mats
  • Selecting, testing, inspecting, using and maintaining grounding equipment and tools
  • Selecting, testing, inspecting, using and maintaining insulated booms on aerial devices
  • Selecting and inspection of equal potential bonding matts and systems
  • High voltage contact rescue
  • we can also supply specific training on circuit breakers, disconnects, transformers, personal protective grounding systems, equal potential bonding, aerial devices, cable splicing and much more
